CNA or Certified Nursing Assistant (also known as Nurse Assistant) is a job in highCNA - How to Become a Certified Nursing Assistant demand. CNAs work in hospitals and nursing homes, but also serve private companies or work independently. The jobs can be hard work, but you should consider this an opportunity to work in a professional environment and also as  a "stepping stone" to other professions, e.g., licensed practical nurse (LPN) or registered nurse (RN).

What is the "inside track" to becoming a CNA? Normally, you are told you must attend a school to study and pass a state examination. Many schools offer programs for this purpose. This takes time and money! You may possibly be exempted from the course on certain conditions. 

Step 1. Contact the agency that runs your CNA program for your state to find out their rules for education and testing. 

Step 2. Take Practice Tests

bulletAttend an approved school (if mandatory).
bulletCheck your local bookstores. (see bottom page for ideas) The best books come with CDROMs with practice tests. Take advantage of these.

                                               

Step 3. Apply for the exam.

bulletFind a testing or training center. Some are shown below.

The training schools charge from $300 up to $1600 for the CNA state-approved course. This usually includes your books. Do you have to take this course? That depends.
